What is a Home Sleep Test?

In order to diagnose and confirm sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, (OSA) a patient must take a polysomnography, also known as a sleep study. A sleep study occurs with an overnight stay at a free-standing or hospital-based facility. With today’s technological advances, an overnight in-lab visit is no longer necessary to determine if you may be suffering from OSA.

Vitalistics’ home sleep testing process is an easy, self-administered, convenient diagnostic testing procedure taken from the comfort of your own home. It consists of a small oxygen tube placed under your nose to monitor your breathing, a belt around your waist to measure the effort you make while breathing, and a small sensor on your finger to measure the oxygen in your blood. The home sleep testing monitors and records your breathing and any pauses in your breathing (known as apneas) throughout the night. This recorded data is used specifically in diagnosing OSA. The recorded data is stored in the device, and downloaded and analyzed by a team of clinical specialists the following day.

The process of home sleep testing with Vitalistics™ is very easy, efficient, and we guarantee rapid reliable results.

Who Would Benefit from a Home Sleep Test?

A home sleep test can be very beneficial for those patients who are suspected to suffer from OSA. In addition, patients with busy schedules and who have trouble arranging a time for an overnight in-lab sleep study also appreciate the convenience of a home sleep test.
